People often begin the process of counseling when they are experiencing significant upheaval, change or chaos in their life. These experiences are often accompanied by a great deal of emotional pain, fear and grief. There are times we attempt to avoid the uncomfortable feelings because we do not feel safe, or because we do not know how to deal with pain and discomfort.

In my practice, I attempt to create a safe space where vulnerability can be learned and embraced, and where self-discovery and acceptance can grow and where pain is seen as an invitation for learning. It is here that we often transform our pain into our wisdom and our strength.

“Practicing loving kindness towards ourselves seems as good a way as any to start illuminating the darkness of difficult times.” -Pema Chodron

“Grace means that all of your mistakes now serve a purpose, instead of serving shame.” – Brene Brown

“Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.” -Pema Chodron
